Daniel and Stephanie: Memory Lane Event Center Wedding in Dripping Springs

Epic Frist Look Portrait, Wedding, Memory Lane, Dripping Springs

Stephanie and Daniel got married on a uncharacteristically warm (like high 80s) November day at the lovely Memory Lane Event Center in Dripping Springs, Texas. After a blue sky first look and ceremony the reception kicked off with a treat. They had a live band: Plush Party Band with some sing along (turns out Daniel can sing) and crowd surfing. Of course, if you don’t like the weather in Texas, just wait a few minutes. By their sparkler exit, the temp had dropped into the 40s which made for a cozy exit.

You may remember Daniel and Stephanie from their Kyle Texas Engagement.

Taylor and Alex: Joshua Tree Adventure Engagement

taylor-and-alex-joshua-tree-adventure-engagement-highlights-006

When couples say yes to our crazy ideas, spectacular things happen. We met Taylor and Alex at the Georgetown Bridal Show even though they live in the Bay Area (as in California). Conversations ensued. We road tripped out to meet them at Joshua Tree for a destination adventure engagement.

Joshua Tree National Park is a dream location. It is the sort of place where a photographer can point their camera in any direction and get spectacular photos. We started in the Cholla Garden, hung out at Skull Rock for sunset and then watch moon rise in Hidden Valley.  Needless to say, we had a ton of fun on this one.

Jacob & Katie: Westridge Stables Spicewood Springs Engagement

jacob-and-kathleen-austin-hill-country-advendure-engagement-photos-016

We met Jacob and Katie through Jacob’s company Lone Star Wake Rentals. Jacob takes people out on the Austin area lakes to have a good time. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a better job fit. About half way through their engagement session I looked at Katie and said “I assume Jacob was always the class clown?” The answer was a resounding “yes!”

Needless to say, Katie and Jacob’s engagement session at Westridge Stables was a lot of fun. The property is huge and we spent the afternoon roaming around it looking for photos. We even made some creative use of our Polaris transport under the milky way..

Nancy and Jose: Wedding at Tenroc Ranch in Salado, TX

Nancy and Jose at Tenroc in Salado

Nancy and Jose were married at the beautiful St. Stephen Catholic Church in Salado, TX.  The ceremony was traditional and elegant.  The couple was poised and full of smiles, beaming at one another as the officiant addressed them, as well as their family and friends.

From the moment they stepped through the threshold, it changed from the traditional and spiritual Catholic ceremony to an all-out celebration.  The freshly wed couple and their guests made their way to gorgeous Tenroc Ranch to begin the festivities.  There were beautiful, emotional dances but things really got interesting during the bouquet toss and the blindfolded garter toss.  The couple was lifted off their feet, carried around by their wedding party and after a few minutes of the festive (and potentially dangerous!) ring around the couple, the game ended with lots of laughter (and no injuries, thankfully!) and dancing, oh and we can’t forget the delicious, self-catered food.

Posh Events and Jenny’s Florals were responsible for making the event custom tailored for Nancy and Jose’s style, and the event hall looked beautiful.

Nancy and Jose were the epitome of happiness on this night, and we wish them that throughout their lives together.

Lindsey and Chase: A Canoeing Adventure Engagement

Start with a bucket of west Texas hill country sunshine, a canoe, a couple of kayaks and finally splash on some some water. Lindsey and Chase wanted to revisit one of their early adventures as a couple so we packed up our camera gear and headed out to the Llano river near Chase’s family ranch.

We set out on a “3 hour tour” down a beautiful and largely wild section of the river and didn’t see anyone else after the first thirty minutes.  We had fun taking photos along the way and stopped at a couple of special locations like the red cliffs for portraits. Three hours turned to 6 and we got to finish the paddle under the milky way.

Abby & James: Wedding at Boulder Springs, New Braunfels

AbbyBlogResized-4

Abby & James were married at Boulder Springs outside New Braunfels, Texas. The heat of the day didn’t slow down the dancing, the fun or the merriment. A detail filled reception hall was put together with a rustic antler motif, there was even a salsa bar! There were just a ton of little touches that reflected the couples decisions and commitment to each other. And then the father-daughter and mother-son dances happened and the flood gates of tears opened up. Just a touching evening all around.

Jonathan and Lindsay: A DIY Vintage Prospect House Wedding in Dripping Springs

Jonathan and Lindsay - Prospect House - DIY Wedding - 061

I’ve known Jonathan for a long while through the swing dance scene and later met Lindsay the same way. I’ve often found them efficiently making things “just work” as a part of Austin’s booming dance scene. They are a couple that make a great team and are also really cute together.

Given how their engagement session went, I wasn’t surprised when their wedding was heaps of fun too. Lindsay and Jonathan applied their dance scene skills to their wedding and made it work flawlessly. They DIY’ed all their decorations to turn Prospect House into a setting that perfectly reflected their playful sense of style. Lindsay made hundreds of gorgeous paper flowers, cute place settings for each guest,  and a lot of nice small touches to help the guests enjoy the wedding.

Congratulations Jonathan and Lindsay!  Thanks for having us as your photographers.

Kristina and Britt: Wedding at Vintage Villas in Lakeway

Kristina and Brett at Vintage Villas - 001

You might remember Kristina & Britt from their engagement session session where Josh got soaked stepping too deep in a lake. And with Austin’s weather this spring threatening rain everyday we lucked out for the wedding ceremony with a calm day and a wonderful sunset (our favorite). Everyone in attendance enjoyed the wonderful views of Lake Travis at Vintage Villas and we all managed to stay dry for the wedding. The weather gods appeased, we were treated to a night of heart rending toasts, ecstatic dancing and a blending of families and cultures. The last part is the aspect of weddings that we feel are the most compelling. Families coming together to witness and share in the love of an union such as Britt & Kristina.

Ale: Mystic McKinney Falls, Austin Senior Portraits

Ale - McKinney Falls - Senior Portraits - 20

Ale, a long time friend of AzulOx, contacted us to do her College Senior Portraits. She knew what we were all about and wanted to use our expertise to craft images that told a story of a young woman who wasn’t so approachable, a woman in nature with maybe a bit of magic to her. We chose the setting of McKinney Falls in south Austin to add a touch of history and a feel for the story of Austin. The water around the falls was really running strong so we started there with time slowing techniques to capture Alejandra with an infinite feel, like she had always been there. The sun was peaking around the clouds here and there and for a moment it felt like we were in another Continent with the way the light was bending.

We finished when the light from the day was almost entirely gone and the clouds were at the most dramatic. We took one of the darker portraits and took it a step further with a few crow composites to really drive home the magical feel of the evening. What type of magic can AzulOx conjure for your special portraits?

Emily: Water Skiing Senior Photos in Seguin

Emaily Nash - Seguin High School Senior - 010

On a boat! Emily’s Senior Portrait Experience featured the first time we have ever used a ski boat as a movable platform for our studio lights, or photographed a cap and gown on water skis! When Emily’s mother contacted us, we knew we were in for a special assignment. The conversation started with cheer-leading photographs and maybe around downtown Seguin in her Aggieland outfit, but the talk turned to Emily loving to waterski at Lake McQueeney and could we take some on the boat too. Well of course #teamblue was ready for that challenge. Josh was on the main boat with his flash on the chase boat where Andrew was stationed shooting with a flash back on the main boat. Team shooting allowed us to get different angles while Emily cruised around the water on 2 then on 1 water ski.

Projects like this are what AzulOx is known for, taking a normal senior portrait session and turning it into a Senior Portrait Experience with 2 photographers, assistants, and lights firing all over the waterfront. What can Team Blue do for you?!

Stephanie and Daniel: Old Town Kyle Engagement

Fearless Submission

Central Texas is full of beautiful texture and color. Stephanie and Daniel live in Kyle, a small town that is no exception. We decided to have a little fun with the travel theme and the old railroad depot and caboose and then just enjoy the texture and nice weather.

Audrey: UT Senior Portraits in downtown Taylor

AudreySocial-3

Audrey channels Audrey. Audrey and team AzulOx have been discussing a shoot like this for at least a year now. Late nights working weddings together usually yields some strange ideas but the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Audrey Hepburn and graduating from Texas Audrey seemed to merge for a hour or so in downtown Taylor. Sassy, Funny, and a little quirky our modern Audrey nailed her transformation. A quick outfit change combined with the speedy hair and makeup change by Revelry Beauty and we were on our way to a Brigitte Bardot 1960’s romp against and old Cotton Press. And what AzulOx shoot wouldn’t be complete without a sunset shoot with a sparkly gold dress.

We are excited to see what the future holds for Audrey UT 2016 graduate, she has already mastered the 1950’s and 1960’s, let’s see what the 2010’s have in store.

Joseph and Sara: Horseshoe Bay Wedding

20160322__AF13962

We have been eagerly anticipating Joseph and Sara’s wedding.  Their Hill Country Engagement shoot was fun, relaxed, and resulted in some of our favorite images (and moments) from last year. Unsurprisingly their wedding had the same vibe, a small ceremony on the patio over the lake surrounded by family and friends, some tasty BBQ (mmm… Sticky Bones…), a little dancing and some chilling by the lake (thanks to a great planner: Karla McNeil). Really, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect day for Joseph and Sara’s wedding.

Stay tuned for a coming soon video from their wedding day. For now, enjoy the pictures and congratulate the couple.

Jonathan and Lindsay – A Vintage Austin Engagement

Jonathan and Lindsay are people I’ve known a while through the Lindy Hop community, but that is only one facet of their personality. Jonathan is one of the biggest foodies I know and Lindsay is really into 40s, 50s and 60s vintage. They have both been bitten by the entrepreneurship bug too. They definitely have their own style. And I spent most of their engagement shoots grinning ear to ear and chuckling.

Planning engagements is always fun. Sometimes we just do pretty pictures but we really enjoy finding something a little more personal, something that really speaks to the couple’s personality.

Lindsay asked if we could do part of their engagement at Sawyer & Co in East Austin. A quick call to the manager and we were good to go. Not only was Sawyer & Co really nice and the decor cool, but the food was great too. The restaurant made a nice backdrop so I decided to have some fun and tell a little visual story through the session. Enjoy!
