Country Club Tennis
Experimented in several areas with these images. The first aspect is a new theme for me, “Second Hand Sundays”. A Goodwill trip with a limited budget and pulling a theme out of our favorite finds. We found a super cool old tennis racket and field hockey stick along with some vintage tops and belts. Deciding that we should go with the repressed country club lovers theme we pulled up Google Maps to find a nearby tennis court. This is a fun way of exploring portraits for me because of the spontaneity and excitement with not knowing.
My second experimentation for this shoot is utilizing the Avenger C Stand and Boom arm I picked up a few weeks ago. We placed an Einstein up top with a small rectangular softbox directly overhead and then had to weight the stand down with 75 pounds of sand because the south wind was blowing through. Good to try a few new lighting positions, I look forward to using this setup more in the future.

Don’t get too close, they are watching
Third, and this one is probably the most noticeable is been experimenting with post processing specifically in the Nik Software plugins. I am not the biggest Photoshop guy and to be honest the controls in Photoshop are overwhelming to me at times. I like that Nik’s plugins (Viveza and Color Efex) are styled more closely to the Lightroom user experience. Still trying to get a handle on all of the sliders and controls but it’s an explorable experience.

Let me know if you like our experiments!
